Under the new planning fee legislation, all planning fees in England will increase by 20% from 17 January 2018.

New fees for Permissions in Principle applications (£401 per 0.1ha) and Prior Notification applications for solar panels to non-commercial buildings (£96) have also been introduced.

In addition to the increased fees, there will no longer be exemptions for areas which fall in Article 4 directions, where permitted development rights have been removed by the council or where councils have removed permitted development rights via planning condition. An example would be on an agricultural tied dwelling and a condition preventing extensions without full planning consent.
